LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Creative Ministries Offering Committee of Presbyterian 
Women has announced the funding of 89 domestic and overseas projects in 
1996 from its annual Thank Offering. A total of just over $1 million was 
     The 109-year-old Thank Offering is received in the fall and money from 
it awarded in the spring, after the Creative Ministries Offering Committee 
has evaluated proposals. This year 226 proposals were submitted. 
     Projects are evaluated on their ability "to meet crucial needs of 
people who are hurting and to International Health Ministries of the 
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)."  This year, 11 overseas hospitals received 
funding from the offering.  A total of 40 percent of the offering is 
earmarked for health ministries. 
     Commenting on the projects selected, Creative Ministries Offering 
Committee chair Una Stevenson of Salt Lake City said, "The purpose of 
Presbyterian Women calls us to support the mission of the church and to 
work for justice and peace.  It is exciting to see the significant impact 
Presbyterian Women have, both nationally and internationally, through their 
annual $1 million plus Thank Offering gifts." 
     Other committee members are Flavia Alvarez, Quebradillas, Puerto Rico; 
the Rev. John Evans, Davidson, N.C.; Sue McClew, Hanover, Ind.; Martelle 
Scott, Mobile, Ala.; Gloria Venett, State College, Pa.; Ruth Williams, 
Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Emily Wood, Maitland, Fla.  Staff to the 
committee are Women's Ministries Program Area staffers Gladys Strachan, 
coordinator for Presbyterian Women, and Jean Cutler, associate for mission
