95323 PRESBYTERIAN BORDER MINISTRY SEEKS STAFF, VOLUNTEERS

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Presbyterian Border Ministry (PBM), based in San
Antonio, Texas, is looking for two staff persons and any number of
volunteers for its cross-cultural ministry along the United States-Mexico
border.

The staff positions, for "mission specialists," are responsible for
program administration, mission education, interpretation and fund-raising.

In cooperation with the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico, PBM's
goals are church planting, responding to the needs of marginalized persons
on both sides of the border and educating churches in both countries about
the needs of people along the border and how the Mexican and U.S.
Presbyterian denominations are attempting to respond to those needs.

Interested persons should have some cross-cultural experience, some
skill in Spanish, be flexible team players, have a college education or
equivalent life experience, have planning skills and be familiar with the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The positions are three-year terms,
renewable for additional terms.

PBM Coordinator Jerry Stacy said the organization is willing to
provide language training.

The Presbyterian Border Ministry is also looking for Volunteers in
Mission who will commit to two years with the ministry. The work is
primarily administrative, relating the ministry's projects to the larger
church. Spanish is not required for these positions.

Stacy said he is looking particularly for older adults "who are still
active and anxious to serve."

Also being sought are recent college or seminary graduates to serve as
volunteers doing community development work. Volunteers would work in such
areas as church development, community health, economic development and
community education.

More information is available by calling Stacy at (210) 826-3296.
