95017            LATIN AMERICAN ASSEMBLY SLATED

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The changing religious profile of Latin America 
and the Caribbean will be the key focus of the Third General 
Assembly of the Latin American Council of Churches when it meets 
Jan. 25-Feb. 1 in Concepcion, Chile. 
 
     The assembly, entitled "Rebirth for a Living Hope," will also 
address ecumenism and the unity of the church in a part of the 
world where religious activity is burgeoning.  More than 500 people 
from at least 10 countries are expected to attend, plus a number 
of invited guests, observers and journalists. 
 
     Countries expected to be represented include Argentina, 
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, 
Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, 
Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
