Allan Boesak, a former minister and anti-apartheid activist
who is South African President Nelson Mandela's choice to be
ambassador to the United Nations, is being investigated for
possible misuse of funds given to his Foundation for Peace and
Justice.
Boesak, who has spoken at numerous Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) gatherings, has denied the allegations that he used
foundation funds for his personal use. The charges, which
originated with a Swedish group, have also been leveled by groups
in Denmark and Norway.
Boesak said he would not take up his new post until the
allegations were cleared up. Mandela has appointed a cabinet
minister to lead the investigation.
