     The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation has named Robert J. Ellis 
as its development officer for eight presbyteries in the Synod of the 
Northeast. 
     Ellis, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, New York, 
has 25 years' experience in the financial services industry with Chase 
Bank, Shearson Hutton and, most recently, with the Equitable Life Assurance 
Society. 
     He will serve the presbyteries of Albany, Cayuga-Syracuse, Genesee 
Valley, Geneva, Northern New York, Susquehanna Valley, Utica and Western 
New York.

     The Rev. Mary Graham has joined the staff of the Congregational 
Ministries Division as associate for evangelism resource development in the 
Christian Education Program Area.  She began work Sept. 5. 
     Graham came to Louisville from Greenville, N.C., where she was campus 
pastor at East Carolina University.

     The Rev. Edwin H. Rian, who served the Presbyterian Church in a 
variety of educational capacities for nearly 50 years, died Aug. 22 in San 
Diego.  He was 95. 
     Rian, a 1927 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, began his 
career in higher education in 1931 as field secretary of Westminster 
Theological Seminary.  He later served as vice president of Trinity 
University in San Antonio and Beaver College in Jenkintown, Pa.  He also 
served as president of Jamestown (N.D.) College and Biblical Seminary and 
Institute for Educational Planning, both in New York City.  He returned to 
Princeton in 1967, where he remained until 1979. 
     Rian is survived by his three daughters: Abigail Rian Evans, Gertrude 
Roanne Pulliam and Marian Rian Hays.  Services were held Aug. 29 at Faith 
Presbyterian Church in San Diego.
