95030 ORIENTATION SLATED FOR NEW EXECUTIVES

                     by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--An orientation session for synod and presbytery
executives who have been in their positions two years or less has
been scheduled for April 1-5 at Louisville Presbyterian Theological
Seminary.

Dennis Maher, associate for professional development in the
National Ministries Division's churchwide partnerships program
area, said the orientation is important because it is the first
event of its kind since denominational restructuring and downsizing
in 1993.

The event will be led by the Rev. Edward White, senior
consultant for the Alban Institute and former executive for
National Capital Presbytery for more than 20 years.

     Maher said participants will:

     * visit the Presbyterian Center and meet with representatives
of the new divisions, the General Assembly Council and the Office
of the General Assembly

     * hear the latest research on the state of the Presbyterian
Church from studies conducted by the seminary and the Lilly
Endowment

     * engage in workshops on stress and self-care, leadership
styles, the ministry of the laity, and the current role of church
executives in the PCUSA.

More information is available from Elizabeth Surgener in the
professional development office in Louisville at (502) 569-5764.
