95053PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETS IN PUERTO RICO

AGUADILLA, Puerto Rico--The Churchwide Coordinating Team (CCT) of 
Presbyterian Women conducted a wide range of business at its semi- 
annual meeting here Feb. 6-14. 
 
     Pat Shields of Cut Bank, Mont., was named chair of the core 
committee to plan the 1997 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian 
Women.  Joining her on the planning team are CCT members Sue 
McClew, Hanover, Ind.; Florence Vargas, San Sebastian, P.R.; Ruth 
Williams, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Karen Fritsch, Bartlesville, 
Okla.; and Carol Hylkema, Dearborn, Mich. 
 
     The group also agreed to invite Terry Schlossberg, executive 
director of Presbyterians Pro-Life to meet with the planners prior 
to the gathering.  Schlossberg has been a frequent critic of both 
the content and conduct of the gathering. 
 
     The Rev. Barbara Roche, editor of "HORIZONS," the magazine of 
Presbyterian Women, announced that the "HORIZONS" Bible study 
author for 1997-98 will be the Rev. Alice Ogden Bellis, assistant 
professor of Old Testament language and literature at Howard 
University School of Divinity in Washington, D.C.  The study will 
be on Jeremiah. 
 
     The CCT endorsed a Jan. 17 letter to the church from General 
Assembly moderator the Rev. Robert W. Bohl voicing his concern 
about the impact of the "Contract With America" on the poor of the 
United States, particularly women and children. 
 
     As is their custom, CCT members gave an offering to a local 
ministry.  A total of $1,000 was given to the Estancia Corazon in 
Aguadilla, which cares for children with AIDS and children whose 
parents have died from AIDS.
