CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.--Wilson College has announced the appointment of 
Katherine M. Houghton of Keene, N.H., as the new dean of students. 
Houghton, who assumed her duties July 1, served as dean of students at 
Landmark College in Putney, Vt., for the past four years.  
 
St. PAUL, Minn.--Robert M. Gavin, Jr., president of Macalester College, 
will step down as president at the end of the 1995-96 academic year, 
according to Timothy A. Hultquist, chair of the college's board of 
trustees. Gavin, who served as president 11 years, took office Aug. 1, 
1984. The board will form a committee to initiate a national search for a 
president to succeed Gavin. 
 
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--Rhodes College has concluded its fund raising for an 
expansive $20.2 million Campus Life Center, the college's dean of 
development, Arthur Criscillis, announced. The most ambitious construction 
project in the college's history, the center is a multipurpose athletic, 
fitness, recreation and campus life facility expected to become the hub of 
campus life at the college. 
 
DECATUR, Ill.--Millikin University professor Charles Smith has been elected 
president of the Illinois CPA Society & Foundation Central Chapter. Smith, 
associate professor of accounting, will oversee a panel of four officers in 
his duties as president. Smith, who began teaching at Millikin in 1992, is 
past senior vice president of the group.
