95085 COUNCIL PRAISES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

                          by Alexa Smith

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--A resolution of thanks and praise for the ministry of the
Rev. James D. Brown as General Assembly Council (GAC) executive director
was issued by the Council during its first meeting after Brown's midterm
review.

The resolution came out of a brief executive session and was initiated
by the GAC's Personnel Subcommittee at the midpoint of Brown's four-year
term as the GAC's executive director -- a term that encompassed both
national staff downsizing and the controversy surrounding the November 1993
Re-imagining Conference.

Personnel Subcommittee member Floyd Rhodes of Atlanta told the
Presbyterian News Service that Brown was praised by many for his
"stick-to-itiveness" and "[for] sticking to his guns, for being faithful to
his call."

The resolution states that Brown "has served the Presbyterian Church
(U.S.A.) with imagination, diligence and love ... [and] his mid-term review
... was affirming and reflective of his leadership and commitment to
furthering the Kingdom of God."

The review was conducted in December, Rhodes said.

GAC president the Rev. Lori Zang Kosinski read the resolution aloud
after the Council reconvened after executive session.
