               PRESBYTERIAN MEN NATIONAL CONFERENCE

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

DENVER--A new Bible study, designed especially for men, was introduced here
during the 1995 annual conference of Presbyterian Men (PM).

The June 23-25 conference, "Lift Up the Cross," drew more than 100
Presbyterian men from all around the country to listen to national
Presbyterian leaders, honor leaders with the organization's annual awards,
elect officers, and share ideas for enhancing the church's ministry with
men.

"The Men's Bible Study" was written by noted Presbyterian authors
William Ramsay and John Purdy. The new study is currently being
field-tested in congregations throughout the denomination and will be
published by Westminster/John Knox Press in January 1996.

Keynote speaker for the conference was General Assembly moderator the
Rev. Robert W. Bohl. Other featured speakers during the three-day
conference were the Rev. Richard Wyatt, synod executive for the Synod of
the Rocky Mountains, and the Rev. Peter B. Barnes, pastor of First
Presbyterian Church in Boulder, Colo.

By electing Richard N. Woodard of Camp Hill, Pa., to the new position
of executive secretary, Presbyterian Men signaled its intent to become less
dependent on the national Office of Men's Ministries in Louisville.

Woodard will be responsible for the oversight of the organization's
finances, as well as the chartering and rechartering of congregational
chapters of PM, the development of seminars and conferences and the
planning of PM board of directors meetings.

The Rev. Curtis Miller, associate for men's ministries, said, "I hope
this restructuring of the organization will bring new vitality and
opportunities to men throughout the denomination as they work in
coordination with the office in Louisville."

The group also elected Dale Vandiver of Belleville, Ill., its
president, and Paul Warburton of Ocala, Fla., its treasurer. Vandiver
succeeds Youngil Cho of Raleigh, N.C.
