95206 ASSEMBLY DATES PROPOSED INTO THE YEAR 2001

                          by Alexa Smith

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--General Assembly dates through the year 2001 have been
approved by the Committee on the Office of the General Assembly (COGA) --
with the millennium celebration scheduled for Long Beach, Calif., in the
Presbytery of Los Ranchos.

     Recommended dates and sites for 1997, 2000 and 2001 will go to the
July General Assembly for approval.

     "Los Ranchos is excited about having the year 2000 General Assembly in
Long Beach," said the Rev. David Tomlinson, presbytery executive. "As this
presbytery has been strongly supportive of Presbyterian mission throughout
its history, it looks forward to the possiblity of its members being a part
-- not only hosting the General Assembly -- but being able to see that
part of the Presbyterian Church at work firsthand."

     In addition to recommending the Long Beach site for the year 2000,
COGA also approved:

     * the Presbytery of Cayuga-Syracuse for the 209th General Assembly,
June 14-21, 1997, in Syracuse. The presbyteries of Albany, Utica, Northern
New York, Geneva and Susquehanna Valley will assist in hosting the event.

     * the Presbytery of Louisville for the 213th General Assembly, June
9-16, 2001.

     The schedule of future General Assemblies now proposed by COGA is:

     * the 208th, Albuquerque, N.M., June 29-July 6, 1996 (Santa Fe
Presbytery)
     * the 209th, Syracuse, N.Y., June 14-21, 1997
     * the 210th, Charlotte, N.C., June 13-20, 1998 (Charlotte Presbytery)
     * the 211th, Fort Worth, Texas, June 19-26, 1999 (Grace Presbytery)
     * the 212th, Long Beach, Calif., June 24-July 1, 2000
     * the 213th, Louisville, Ky., June 9-16, 2001

     According to COGA member the Rev. Louise Armstrong-Patriquin, Assembly
sites are chosen on the basis of a city's ability to accommodate the influx
of Presbyterians and also on how the Assembly might "benefit and support
mission and ministry in the area."

     The 1997 and 2001 dates were revised, according to the Office of the
General Assembly, to prevent overlapping meeting times between the Assembly
and Presbyterian Women's triennial gathering.

     The Presbyterian Women's gathering will be held in Louisville in 1997
and in 2000.
