95239LONGTIME MISSIONARIES NAMED WINNERS OF BELL-MCKAY PRIZE

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Rev. Harold Kurtz and his wife, Polly, have been named
the winners of the ninth annual Bell-McKay Prize of Presbyterians for
Renewal (PFR). The prize, $5,000 plus a diploma, will be awarded at the
PFR breakfast at General Assembly in Cincinnati on July 18.

For nearly 30 years, the Kurtzes served as Presbyterian missionaries
to Ethiopia, conducting an extensive ministry of preaching, teaching and
community and church development.

After retiring from the mission field in 1984, Harold Kurtz became
executive director of the Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship, a program of
evangelism to people who have never before heard the gospel.

The Bell-McKay Prize is given by PFR each year to honor "the ideals
and lives of L. Nelson Bell and John A. McKay in their passion to advance
the mission and unity of the Presbyterian Church."
