AUSTIN, Texas--Austin Theological Seminary graduated its largest class ever
on May 19. The Rev. James Hutton Costen, president of Interdenominational
Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, delivered the commencement address to
46 master-of-divinity graduates, 17 master-of-arts graduates and 19
doctor-of-ministry graduates. This 94th commencement was the last one
presided over by retiring seminary president the Rev. Jack L. Stotts.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Rev. James E. Andrews, stated clerk for the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), was the commencement speaker for the 1996
graduating class at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The
Rev. David A. Steere, retiring professor of pastoral care and director of
clinical training, delivered the Baccalaureate Service address.
SAN ANSELMO, Calif.--The Rev. Harriet A. Nelson, former General Assembly
moderator of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has announced her plans to
retire as vice president for institutional advancement of San Francisco
Theological Seminary in August. Nelson was appointed to the position in
1992 and was instrumental in completing the $2.4 million restoration of
Montgomery Memorial Chapel and Montague Hall, the location of the Hedco
Preaching and Worship Center.
DECATUR, Ga.--The board of trustees of Columbia Theological Seminary has
announced that the Rev. D. Cameron Murchison will join Columbia's faculty
in the fall of 1996 as professor of ministry. For the past eight years,
Murchison has served as pastor of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church in
Blacksburg, Va. From 1977 to 1987, he was a faculty member at Union
Theological Seminary in Virginia.
RICHMOND, Va.--Union Theological Seminary in Virginia has expanded its
program in intercultural studies to include an "Appalachia Collegium."
This is the ninth group in the Goodpasture Intercultural Collegia, a
program designed to bring people together monthly to discuss religious,
social and political issues affecting the work of the church in a
particular part of the world. The program was begun by H. McKennie
Goodpasture, retiring professor of missiology at Union.
RICHMOND, Va.--The Rev. James D. Brown, executive director of the General
Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is the commencement
speaker for the June 2 graduation ceremonies at the Presbyterian School of
Christian Education (PSCE). "In Spite of Everything" is the title of
Brown's address.
