BISHOP MILLER RE-ELECTED IN UPSTATE

NEW YORK

The Rev. Lee M. Miller, 57, was re-elected to a six-year
term as bishop of the Upstate New York Synod of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on June 2.  He
received 333 of 424 votes to win re-election on the first
ballot taken during the synod's annual assembly at the
State University of New York at Oswego.  The synod
used a nominating process that placed four names on that
ballot.  In addition to Miller, the Rev. James H. Slater III,
St. Luke Lutheran Church, Valatie, N.Y., received 42
votes; the Rev. Dennis R. Meyer, Our Redeemer Lutheran
Church, Scotia, N.Y., 25 votes; and the Rev. Peter S.
Klotz, St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ballston Spa, N.Y., 23
votes.  Miller was first elected bishop in 1992.  He was an
assistant to the bishop and a mission director for the
synod.  Miller has served as pastor of First Lutheran
Church, Jamestown, N.Y., and First English Lutheran
Church, Lockport, N.Y., and as dean of education for
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, N.Y.
