WOMAN TO HEAD LUTHERAN SEMINARY

News from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Dr. Faith E. Rohrbough is set to be the first woman to
head a Lutheran seminary in North America.  Rohrbough,
a U.S. theologian and historian, was elected president of
the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan, the Canadian seminary announced May
27.  Rohrbough, who succeeds the Rev. Roger W.
Nostbakken, is expected to take up her new duties in
September.  Rohrbough is a professor of church history at
the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, a
seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
She has strong interests in social justice issues as well as
the globalization of theological education.  Rohrbough has
visited seminaries in India, Tanzania, Namibia and South
Africa and has been instrumental in arranging faculty and
student participation in various global experiences.  She is
a graduate of Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., and
received her doctorate in history at the University of Basel,
Switzerland.
