     While Hurricane Bertha side-swiped Caribbean islands on a
course that may take it to the U.S. mainland, the United Methodist
Committee on Relief (UMCOR) prepared to respond as needed and
issued an Advance number for donations to care for survivors of
the 1996 hurricane season.
     UMCOR will receive money designated "Hurricanes '96" Advance
No. 982410-0 to provide relief and recovery for areas affected.
     As more information about needs in areas touched by Hurricane
Bertha and subsequent storms becomes available, news stories will
be forthcoming.
     United Methodist Committee on Relief is part of the Board of
Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Its headquarters
are at 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115, and its relief
assistance is given without regard to religion, race or
nationality of the recipients.
