New UMCom radio-spot
series going nationwide

by Nancye M. Willis*

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- The United States has 12,001 radio
stations -- and United Methodist Comunication's Public Media
Marketing unit is sending each one a copy of a new series of radio
spots.
      "Take 5" and a companion Spanish-language version, "Toma 5,"
both produced by United Methodist Communication's Radio
Ministries, are being marketed directly to local radio stations as
a way each can enhance its image as an involved and concerned
community member.
Its producers say this public-service announcement (PSA)
campaign offers proactive messages suggesting specific actions
people can take -- in just five minutes -- to make their
communities better, kinder places.
      "Take five -- share a load ... smooth a road ... plant a seed
.. lend a hand ... make a plan ... fill a need ... take five

little minutes every day to grow one small kindness ... and send
it someone's way!" each English-language spot invites musically.
Each ends with: "A message from the heart -- and the people -- of
the United Methodist Church."
"Toma 5" was developed specifically to reflect Hispanic
language patterns and culture. It includes a specially written
musical theme. Letty LaFontaine, Public Media Marketing director,
was producer.
A youth-oriented "Take 5" is in production, and is scheduled
for fall release.
"Take 5" CDs include six 60-second and one 30-second (music
only) PSAs; "Toma 5" CDs, five 60-second and one 30-second (music
only).
The series' production team includes United Methodist
Communication's director of radio ministries, Bill Richards and
assistant director of radio ministries Bill Wolfe. Vocal and
instrumental music was furnished by Whistler's Music here.
More information on "Take 5" and "Toma 5" is available from
Public Media Marketing, United Methodist Communications, P.O. Box
320, Nashville, TN 37203-0320; telephone (800) 476-776.
