    Walton grant winners announced for outstanding new church development 
 
ALBUQUERQUE--The General Assembly Council's National Ministries Division 
has announced the winners of the 1996 Walton grants for outstanding new 
church development ministry in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  Each of 
the eight recipients will receive $30,000 from a $3 million endowment 
established in 1991 by Helen and the late Sam Walton of Bentonville, Ark. 
 
    The winning churches are Covenant Community Church of Vacaville, 
Calif.; Eastfield Road Presbyterian Church of Huntersville, N.C.; First 
African Presbyterian Church of Lithonia, Ga.; Macland Presbyterian Church 
of Powder Springs, Ga.; New Hope Presbyterian Church of Fishers, Ind.; 
Plymouth Presbyterian Church of Plymouth, Minn.; Southminster Presbyterian 
Church of Gastonia, N.C.; and Taiwanese Presbyterian Church in South Bay of 
Redondo Beach, Calif.
