Fill-in Leaders Announced
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Outgoing General Assembly Council (GAC) executive director
the Rev. James D. Brown has announced appointments to two vacancies created
by actions of the recent 208th General Assembly in Albuquerque.
Brown, whose confirmation to a second four-year term as executive
director was defeated by the Assembly, announced his appointment of the
Rev. Frank Diaz as acting executive director, effective immediately. For
the past seven years Diaz has been associate director for GAC operations.
Brown's term expires Sept. 16. The GAC Personnel Subcommittee has
launched a search for an interim executive director, who will start work
Oct. 1.
Brown has also named Gwen Crawley, who retired last year, as interim
director of the GAC's Worldwide Ministries Division (WMD). Crawley
temporarily fills the post vacated by the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, who was
elected General Assembly stated clerk in Albuquerque. She begins her new
assignment July 22.
At the time of her retirement, Crawley was the associate director for
global service and witness in WMD.
The GAC will name a search committee when it meets in September to
recommend a new division director, who must be elected by the Council and
confirmed by the General Assembly.
