HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH CONFLICT?
96-WO-05-JF

MINNEAPOLIS (ELCA) -- Do you deal with conflict by forcing,
avoiding, accomodating, compromising or collaborating? About 30
Lutheran women completed surveys to assess their own styles of
responding to conflict during a workshop here July 9-10.
The Conflict Resolution Skills Workshop preceded the Third
Triennial Convention of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America, July 11-14, sharing the theme "Proclaim God's Peace."
Bob Williamson and Joan Troyer of the Lombard Mennonite Peace
Center, Lombard, Ill.,led the women through discussion, role play and
other exercises to reflect on their own experiences of conflict. They
practiced peaceful solutions to conflict at the interpersonal and
congregational levels.
Williamson presented his experiences of conflict resolution
skills training in the former Yugoslavia. For the past several years,
the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center has conducted training at churches
in Serbia to teach members skills for dealing with conflict.
