In an article by Midge Mack in the Wrap-Up Edition of the "General
Assembly News," it was reported that "Per capita ($4.52 per member) will
not be increased for 1997. ..."
The 1996 General Assembly did not increase per capita for 1997 beyond
the increase approved by the 1995 General Assembly. That Assembly voted to
increase the 1997 per capita to $4.66 per member.

In an article in the July 19 "NEWS BRIEFS" (#96253), Louisville
"Courier-Journal" reporter Michael Jennings wrote that "Elder Nancy Profit
of First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt, Iowa, hopes to be able to baptize
and perform weddings ..." as a commissioned lay pastor.
Profit told the Presbyterian News Service she hopes to be able to
conduct the sacraments -- Communion and baptism -- but not weddings.
