                1997 General Assembly Is Announced

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Peace River Presbytery has made the first plunge into the 
race for moderator of the 209th General Assembly (1997) by endorsing Elder 
D. Eugene Sibery for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s top elected post. 
 
     Sibery, an elder in Faith Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral, Fla., and 
chair of the Board of Pensions, was endorsed for moderator at a July 11 
adjourned meeting of the presbytery. 
 
     As chair of the Board of Pensions, Sibery is a corresponding member of 
the General Assembly Council.  He is currently on the session at Faith 
Church and also serves Peace River as a member of its Committee on 
Ministry.    
 
     Sibery retired in 1991 after many years as an executive in the health 
insurance industry.  Most recently, he was president and chief executive 
officer of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa.  From 1991 to 1993, he served as 
a consultant to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare 
Organizations.
