LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Peace River Presbytery has made the first plunge into the
race for moderator of the 209th General Assembly (1997) by endorsing Elder
D. Eugene Sibery for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s top elected post.
Sibery, an elder in Faith Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral, Fla., and
chair of the Board of Pensions, was endorsed for moderator at a July 11
adjourned meeting of the presbytery.
As chair of the Board of Pensions, Sibery is a corresponding member of
the General Assembly Council. He is currently on the session at Faith
Church and also serves Peace River as a member of its Committee on
Ministry.
Sibery retired in 1991 after many years as an executive in the health
insurance industry. Most recently, he was president and chief executive
officer of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Iowa. From 1991 to 1993, he served as
a consultant to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organizations.
