VOCATION OF A LUTHERAN COLLEGE

A conference exploring what it means to be a college of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will be held August 8-11
at Augsburg College, Minneapolis.  Presenters at "Vocation of a
Lutheran College" will explore content, history, theology and
future of the tradition.  Each of the ELCA's 28 colleges and
universities is invited to send five participants: four faculty
or administrators and one graduate student.  Dr. Walter R.
Bouman, Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio, will address
"What is the Lutheran Tradition?"  How the Lutheran tradition is
embodied in its colleges and universities will be taken up by Dr.
Wendy J. McCredie, Texas Lutheran College, Seguin, Texas, and Dr.
L. Baird Tipson, president, Wittenberg University, Springfield,
Ohio.  Other presenters include Dr. Robert Vogel, president,
Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa.  The conference is sponsored by
the ELCA's Division for Higher Education and Schools and
supported by a grant from the Lilly Endowment.
