United Methodist organization
announces scholarship recipients

     NASHVILLE,  Tenn. (UMNS) -- The United Methodist National
Youth Ministry Organization (NYMO) and the churchwide Board of
Higher Education and Ministry's Office of Loans and Scholarships
have announced jointly the names of four scholarship recipients.
     Two students will receive $600 Richard S. Smith scholarships. 
They are:
     Allison K. Mark, 17, from Honolulu, Hawaii, who plans to
study psychology at the University of Washington, Seattle.  She
attends Kilohana United Methodist Church, Honolulu.
     Janet M. Gilmore, 17, from Laverock, Pa., who plans to major
in computer science engineering at the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville.  She is a member of Tindley Temple United
Methodist Church, Philadelphia.
     Two students receiving $750 David W. Self scholarships are:
     Michael K. Hoppe, 17, of Springfield, Ohio, who plans to
attend Ohio Northern University.  He is a member of High Street
United Methodist Church, Springfield.
     Jared A. Newman, 17, of Colorado Springs, Colo., who plans to
study at Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro, in preparation for
the ministry.  He is a member of Sunrise United Methodist Church
in Colorado Springs.
     The Richard S. Smith scholarships are awarded to ethnic
minority undergraduate students.  Both scholarships are for one
year and are not renewable.
     The grants honor the late David W. Self and Richard S. Smith,
who were staff members of the United Methodist Board of Higher
Education and Ministry.
