96293 GAC'S Nominating Committee Proposes
                     Council Committee Slate

                      by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--An expanded slate of nominees to General Assembly Council
(GAC) committees -- necessitated by the 208th General Assembly's decision
to increase the membership of the Council -- has been proposed by the GAC's
nominating committee.

The slate will be presented to the Council at its Sept. 25-28 meeting
in Louisville for election.

The Assembly's decision to increase the membership of the Council from
72 to 97 members means the GAC's committees will be larger. The new
members are designated from the presbyteries on a rotation basis -- a move
recommended by the Assembly's Quadrennial Committee on Review to increase
middle governing bodies' participation in Assembly-level decision making.
