More burned churches 
receive rebuilding funds

     NEW YORK (UMNS) -- Thirteen more burned churches have
received rebuilding grants from the National Council of Churches'
Burned Churches Fund.
     With the new grants, approved Oct. 17 by the Burned Churches
Fund Grants Committee here, more than $2.3 million has been
allocated for the restoration of 34 churches, most with African-
American congregations.
     Those receiving the latest grants -- ranging from $10,000 to
$100,000 -- were Hickory Grove Community Church, Ottumwa, Iowa;
First Baptist Church, Richmond, Va.,; Glorious Church of God in
Christ, Richmond, Va.; Greater Gospel Temple Church of God in
Christ, Dallas; Liberty Baptist Church, Collins, Miss.; and Beacon
Baptist Church, Yazoo, Miss.
     Also, St. Mark's Missionary Baptist Church, Tyronza, Ark.;
Willis Temple Church of God in Christ, Forrest City, Ark.; Greater
New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Phoenix; St. James African
Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Maysville, N.C.; St. John Baptist
Church, Dixianna, S.C.; St. Stephen's Baptist Church, St.
Stephens, S.C.; and Summer Grove Baptist Church, Williston, S.C.
     As of Oct. 16, the fund had received $4.7 million in cash
donations, with an additional $1.4 million anticipated. In-kind
contributions have totaled $3.4 million including wood products
from International Paper, modular units from GE Capital and a $2
million preconstruction loan fund from the Enterprise Foundation.
