Advance program provides
video, other tools for education

DAYTON, Ohio (UMNS) -- A "toolbox" of resources, including a
20-minute video, about the United Methodist program of mission
support called the Advance for Christ and His Church is being
mailed to the denomination's active clergy throughout the United
States.
A toolbox was given to the 20 members of the new Advance
Committee when the group formed here Oct. 26. Besides the video
titled "Whom Shall I Send?", the cardboard box contains leaflets,
a poster, colorful display photos and other materials about the
Advance.
This program of designated giving, organized after World War
II to call Christians to participate in healing and recovery
around the globe, will observe its 50th anniversary in 1998. The
General Council on Ministries will launch the churchwide
celebration at the council's fall 1997 meeting.
The newly constituted 20-member committee organized four
project approval teams and a promotion and cultivation
subcommittee.
Members elected Bishop Edward Paup of Portland, Ore., team
leader; the Rev. Gordon Goodgame of Lake Junaluska, N.C.,
associate team leader; and Nancy Foster of Tulsa, Okla.,
secretary. The Rev. William T. Carter Sr. is director of the
Advance. His office is located at the Board of Global Ministries
in New York.
