Board of Discipleship activates toll-free
number to address local church organization

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UMNS) -- The United Methodist Board of
Discipleship has instituted a toll-free telephone number to help
congregations organize for ministry.
It will be available to United Methodist churches through
next January.
The 1996 General Conference gave congregations freedom to
structure themselves in the way that is most effective for them.
Tim Moss, a Discipleship staff member explained that because
of the freedoms given, his agency wants to help local churches
answer questions and prepare congregations to address their
current and future needs.
Staff members will answer the telephone between 11 a.m. and 3
p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday. At other times, calls
will be recorded by an answering machine for a response the next
working day. The toll-free number is (800) 981-2113.
The board also has scheduled a national ministry
teleconference on Jan. 5, to address questions about church
structure and organization.
"Ministry for A New Day," will be aired on the United
Methodist Teleconference Connection beginning at 5:30 p.m. Eastern
Time.
During the teleconference, Board of Discipleship staff
members will explore the best uses of the organizational freedom
granted to congregations. There also will be opportunities for
live interaction with people around the United Methodist
connection.
"We hope viewers will let us know what kinds of resources
will help leaders be in ministry more effectively," Moss said.
Churches needing assistance setting up downlink sites, can
call Herb Mather at (615) 340-7075 or fax him at (615) 340-7006.
