96398 Board of Pensions Office Is Moving this Weekend
by Jerry L. Van Marter
and Sue Pierce, Board of Pensions
PHILADELPHIA--The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Board of Pensions will
temporarily cease operations on Friday, Oct. 4, at noon in order to move
over the weekend. Business will resume by noon on Monday, Oct. 7. The
move has been planned over a weekend to ensure minimum disruption of the
Board's services.
During the weekend move, the Board of Pensions' toll-free Call Service
Center will continue to operate as an answering service. It will be
checked regularly for messages. The toll-free number remains the same --
1-800-773-7752. Persons are asked to call during the shutdown only in
cases of emergency.
The new direct central switchboard number, beginning Oct. 7, is (215)
587-7200. The new address as of the same date:
The Board of Pensions
2000 Market St.
Philadelphia, PA 19103-3298
The Board is undertaking this move because the real estate climate
offered a favorable opportunity to move to more modern and spacious offices
at a cost that will save the Board as much as $3 million over the next 10
years. The new offices are less than a mile from the Board's present
location.
According to Board president John J. Detterick, though it would have
been possible to relocate outside the city, the Board made a conscious
decision to remain in the city center. By so doing, the Board can provide
an important witness in its commitment to an ethnically diverse urban work
force and to the church's obligation to be where people need jobs.
