96394 Search Committees Chosen for GAC Executive Director,
Worldwide Ministries Division Director
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--After confirming the appointment of the Rev. Frank Diaz as
interim executive director Sept. 27, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
General Assembly Council elected a seven-member search committee to find
the next chief executive officer for the denomination.
David Greer of Omaha, who chairs the council's nominating committee,
told the council that the slate of nominees presented reflects the
diversity of the council -- four women and three men, five laypersons and
two ministers, five Caucasians, one African American and one Asian. The
seven members come from seven different synods.
They are Lynda Ardan of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, who was named
chair of the search committee; Inez Allan of Bellevue, Washington; Andrew
Browne of Aurora, Colorado; the Rev. Tae Su Cheong of St. Petersburg,
Florida; Fred Denson of Webster, New York; the Rev. Joanne Hull of
Greensboro, North Carolina; and Sue Nispel of Wichita, Kansas.
The council also elected a search committee to find a new director for
the Worldwide Ministries Division. Eugene McKelvey of Houston, chair of
the division and of the search committee, said he has every expectation
that the search committee will have a candidate to present by next summer's
General Assembly in Syracuse, New York.
The position was vacated when the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick was elected
stated clerk of the General Assembly in Albuquerque this summer.
Other members of the search committee are Worldwide Ministries
Division committee members the Rev. Lois Swanson of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin;
Seong-Hwan Kim of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and the Rev. Robert Bohl of
Prairie Village, Kansas. Other members of the search committee are Mary
Elva Smith of San Diego and a member of the National Ministries Division
committee; Deanna Clark of Salt Lake City and an at-large member of the
General Assembly Council; and interim executive director the Rev. Frank
Diaz.
