INDIANAPOLIS (DNS) -- A former church executive who
headed the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)'s largest
regional body has died of complications from stomach and
esophageal cancer.

The Rev. Mary Margaret Harrison died July 21 in Ann
Arbor, Mich., where she was serving as interim minister of
Memorial Christian Church. Harrison, diagnosed with cancer
in April, had been hospitalized for four days last week
after suffering a stroke July 15.

Memorial services were held July 23 at Memorial
Christian Church and July 26 at East Dallas (Texas)
Christian Church. Presiding at the East Dallas service will
be the Revs. Zena McAdams, North Texas Area associate
minister, Dallas; Kenneth Teegarden, general minister and
president emeritus, Fort Worth; and James C. Suggs,
president, Christian Board of Publication, St. Louis, Mo.

General Minister and President Richard L. Hamm will
preach at an Aug. 11 service in her honor at Memorial
Christian Church in Ann Arbor.

Contributions in Harrison's memory may be made to
Juliette Fowler Homes, Dallas, or to Memorial Christian
Church.

Harrison served as regional minister and president of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Southwest
from May 1990 through April 1995. She previously served
there as an associate regional minister, joining the staff
in January 1983.

The Southwest region is composed of 437 congregations
and more than 70,000 participating members in Texas, New
Mexico and the Oklahoma Panhandle.

Prior to her call as associate regional minister,
Harrison was associate minister of University Christian
Church, Austin, Texas, and pastor of First Christian Church,
Livermore, Calif.
