JOYCE CAIN TO HEAD LLM

The Lutheran Laity Movement for Stewardship (LLM) board of
directors elected B. Joyce Cain to a four-year term as executive
director, effective Feb. 1, 1997.  She will succeed Clinton P.
Schroeder, who will retire Jan. 31 after seven years in that
post.  LLM is a fellowship of 2,300 lay persons who affirm
stewardship as a way of living.  It is housed in the Division for
Congregational Ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in
America.  LLM nurtures and encourages its members in their
personal stewardship development; sponsors "Seminars on
Stewardship and Lifestyle;" publishes a stewardship journal,
"Faith in Action;" and provides a fund raising and counseling
service.  Cain worked in the Michigan Synod office of the former
Lutheran Church in America before joining the LLM staff in
Chicago in 1988.  She was named assistant to the executive
director in 1992 and assistant director in 1994.  "Joyce brings
to LLM a love for Christ, the Lutheran church and the members of
LLM," said LLM President Michael Linder, Durham, Ore.  "She is
clearly up to the challenge."  He added that Cain "has a passion
for LLM and our ministry."  In more than 40 years of service, LLM
has helped more than 3,500 congregations, agencies and
institutions raise in excess of $400 million.  This year LLM is
working with about 30 congregations in special efforts to raise
$5 million.
