     Doreen Meekhof, wife of recently retired Synod of Alaska-Northwest 
executive the Rev. David Meekhof, died Oct. 14 of lung cancer.  Memorial 
services will be held Oct. 21 at Newport Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, 
Wash.

     David P. Young, renowned Presbyterian photographer, poet and 
international mission interpreter for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), has 
resigned his post on the denomination's national staff in Louisville to 
return to college teaching.  Young, who prior to joining national staff 
taught at Maryville (Tenn.) College, is director of the new international 
student program at Marietta (Ohio) College. 
     In his new position, Young will seek to globalize Marietta's academic 
program by working with international students attending Marietta and by 
creating international study opportunities for Marietta students.

     The Rev. David L. Northcutt of Houston has been named deputy chief of 
chaplains for the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), an auxiliary of the United States 
Air Force.  Northcutt, who has served in the CAP for 25 years, holds the 
rank of lieutenant colonel.  He is also currently part-time interim pastor 
of Heights Presbyterian Church in Houston. 
     The Civil Air Patrol carries out aerospace education, search and 
rescue operations and other activities to assist the Air Force.  It 
includes 50,000 senior members and cadets, including one-third of all the 
chaplains assigned to the Air Force, Air Force Reserve and CAP itself.

     Four Presbyterians are among the 14 scholars who have contributed to 
Volume VII of "The New Interpreter's Bible" commentary, scheduled to be 
released in November by Abingdon Press.  When completed in the year 2000, 
the 12-volume project by 97 scholars will include commentary on every book 
of the Bible, including the Apocrypha.  Volume VII covers the books of 
Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, 
Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Daniel and additions to Daniel. 
     Contributing Presbyterian scholars to Volume VII are the Rev. 
Elizabeth Achtemeier of Union Theological Seminary inVirginia; Francisco O. 
Garcia-Treto of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas; Donald E. Gowan 
of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and the Rev. W. Eugene March of 
Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

     The Rev. Randy Naylor, former director of communications for the 
United Church of Canada, has been nominated by a search committee to be the 
next associate general secretary for communication and interpretation for 
the National Council of Churches.  Naylor, currently president of the World 
Association of Christian Communication, is completing course work for his 
Ph.D. in theology and communications at the University of Toronto. 
     If elected by the NCC's executive board at its November meeting, 
Naylor will begin work May 1, 1997.  He will succeed Mike Maus, a 
Presbyterian elder who resigned last spring to become director of 
communications for the American Bible Society.
