"Presbyterians Today" Advent Calendar
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Award-winning Presbyterian writer Vic Jameson, editor
emeritus of "Presbyterian Survey" (now "Presbyterians Today"), is the
author of the 1996 Advent Calendar, a traditional pullout feature in the
December issue of the magazine.
In addition to Jameson's meditations on the theme "Journeys of the
Heart," the calendar includes daily scripture readings, suggested home
worship services and learning activities for Advent.
Reprints of the calendar, available in past years, are not being
printed this year, but additional copies of the December issue containing
the Advent Calendar may be ordered for $1 by calling 1-800-524-2612.
Also featured in the December issue is "On the Scene in Bethlehem," a
firsthand account of current events in the town of Jesus' birth by
Presbyterian missionary Doug Dicks. J. Martin Bailey, a former editor of
"A.D." magazine and a communications consultant to the Middle East Council
of Churches, writes about Dicks' determination to help visitors to
Palestine and Israel meet local Christians and gain a balanced
understanding of the competing claims of Jews, Muslims and Christians to
the Holy Land.
