96452 Network of Theological Education Fund
Interpreters Grows
by Jerry L. Van Marter
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Eight new resource persons have joined the ranks of people
who, on a presbytery-by-presbytery basis, interpret the Theological
Education Fund of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). With the new enlistees,
the network of interpreters now covers 120 of the 172 presbyteries.
The focus of the network is to help congregations and presbyteries
understand the funding plan. Governing bodies and particularly
congregations are encouraged to contribute 1 percent of their budget to the
Fund, which helps support 11 theological institutions of the Presbyterian
Church (U.S.A.).
The theological schools receive no money from the General Assembly
mission budget.
The eight new resource persons were trained during an Oct. 19-20
retreat at San Francisco Theological Seminary by Patsy Godwin, associate
for theological school support in the Theological Education Office of the
Congregational Ministries Division, and the Rev. John F. Payne of
Chesapeake, Va., a consultant to the office.
"I came away from the retreat feeling even more positive about the
Theological Education Fund and am anxious to communicate that enthusiasm to
the churches throughout Trinity Presbytery," said the Rev. Timothy Hoyt
Duncan, associate pastor of Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C.,
and the new interpreter for Trinity Presbytery.
