Gangler honored as UMAC
Communicator of the Year

     WASHINGTON (UMNS) -- The Rev. Daniel R. Gangler, associate
editor of the United Methodist Reporter, was named 1996
Communicator of the Year by the United Methodist Association of
Communicators (UMAC) here Nov. 22.
     Overwhelmed by the surprise announcement at the annual awards
dinner, Gangler expressed his gratitude to his fellow
communicators for the work they do in communications. "It feels
good when you are honored by family," he said
     During the past year, Gangler served as president of both
UMAC and the interfaith Religious Public Relations Council.
     He is a general assignment reporter and editorial writer as
well as associate editor of the Dallas-based publication. 
     Before assuming his current position in 1994, Gangler served
11 years as director of communications for the Nebraska Annual
Conference and editor of its monthly newspaper, the Nebraska
Messenger.
     Gangler is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church
and a certified Christian communicator. He has a master of
divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and
a doctor of ministry in social ethics from Saint Paul School of
Theology. From 1971 until 1983 he served as pastor of several
United Methodist churches in Nebraska.
