LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The 1997 Association of Presbyterian Church Educators
(APCE) annual conference for all who are involved in the educational
ministry of the church will be held Feb. 5-8.

Registration packets for the San Diego meeting are now
available from the APCE conference office in Louisville, Ky. The theme for
the conference is "Seeing Through God's Eyes," based on Isaiah 43:19
("Watch for the new thing I am going to do. It is happening already -- you
can see it now!").

Conference preachers are Dr. Howard Rice, professor of ministry at San
Francisco Theological Seminary; the Rev. Marjorie Thompson, director of the
Pathways Center for Christian Spirituality at the Upper Room in Nashville,
Tenn.; and Dr. Doug Adams, professor of Christianity and the arts at
Pacific School of Religion and member of the doctoral faculty of the
Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley, Calif.

This year's APCE Educator of the Year is Rodger Nishioka, coordinator
of youth and young adult ministries in the Congregational Ministries
Division. In his 10 years of working for the church, Nishioka has served as
staff for the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, the annual continuing education
event for youth ministry professionals, the National Presbyterian Youth
Ministry Council and the Montreat Youth Conferences. He also has traveled
frequently, leading workshops and keynoting youth events across the church.

Nishioka has written and edited PREM youth resources. His major
accomplishment has been helping to launch the Presbyterian Youth
Connection, the denomination's new initiative in youth ministry. Nishioka
is also studying full-time at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago for
a master's degree in theological studies. He plans to pursue a Ph.D. in
religious education and hopes to serve in a PC(USA) seminary as professor
of Christian education.

APCE Conference participants will have a choice of 73 workshops and
seminars from which to choose on a variety of Christian education topics.
There also will be a theological institution gathering, an educational
ministry advocates network update and luncheon, a PC(USA) Resource Center
gathering and an educational ministries job fair. More information is
available by calling Pat Murphy, APCE registrar, at (502) 569-5460.

APCE derives its strength from more than 1,500 members committed to
the educational ministry of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the
Presbyterian Church in Canada, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the
Reformed Church in America.
