Global Gathering III scheduled
April 10-13 in Kansas City

     "Global Gathering III," a United Methodist Board of Global
Ministries event celebrating mission around the world, is
scheduled for April 10-13 in Kansas City, Mo.
     Author Jonathon Kozol has been confirmed as a keynote
speaker. Bible study leaders are Mary Mikhail, president of the
Near East Theological Seminary in Beirut, Lebanon; the Rev.
Christopher Duraisingh, a World Council of Churches staff member
from the Church of South India; and the Rev. Nellie Ritchie of
Instituto Superior Evangelico de Estudios Teologicos of Buenos
Aires, Argentina.
     Worship leaders will be the Rev. Minerva Carca¤o, director of
the Mexican American Program at Perkins School of Theology in
Dallas; Bishop Kenneth Carder of Nashville, Tenn.; and the Rev.
Emmanuel Cleaver, the mayor of Kansas City.
     Invited but not confirmed are Graca Machel, a United
Methodist from Mozambique who is chairwoman of the United Nation's
first study of impact of war on children, and the Rev. Gao Ying of
Beijing, China.
     The gathering, at Bartle Hall, opens with registration at 11
a.m. Thursday, April 10. Opening worship, featuring Carca¤o, will
be at 7:30 p.m.
     Friday and Saturday's schedule begins with 8 a.m. worship,
followed by Bible study. Keynote presentations are at 10 a.m.,
with a panel of witnesses at 11 a.m. Afternoon workshops are from
12:30 to 3 p.m. Friday evening worship and Saturday's "Global
Praise" event are at 7:30 p.m.
     The "global village," a display of cultures from around the
world, will operate from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 10 and 11:45
a.m. to 10 p.m. April 11 and 12.
     On April 13, the concluding day, the 8:30 a.m. Bible study
will be followed by a 9:45 a.m. commissioning and worship service.
