VETERAN COMMUNICATOR TO DIRECT FRIENDSHIP PRESS

NEW YORK, N.Y., Dec. 6 -- A veteran
communicator with 40 years of experience in
producing and marketing print and audio-visual
resources has been named interim publisher of
Friendship Press and executive director of the
Education for Mission Unit of the National Council
of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.

 Dr. Roger L. Burgess, Nashville, Tenn., assumed
the post in November.  He recently retired after a
decade as general secretary of the United Methodist
General Commission on Communications.  Prior to
that, Dr. Burgess spent a decade as vice-president
of the denomination's publishing house.  He also
served as general secretary of the church's General
Board of Health and Welfare Ministries.  He was
chair of the National Council's Communication
Commission from 1991 to 1994.

 Friendship Press is the NCC's mission education
publishing arm, producing a wide range of mission
study materials and other resources used by the
Council's member churches.
