96490   Worship And Music Conference Slated For July 1997

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Making worship inspirational, exciting and meaningful 
without sacrificing the integrity of the Reformed worship tradition will be 
the focus of the fourth annual music and worship conference sponsored by 
the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.   
 
     The conference, "Beyond the Words and Notes: Proclaiming Christ with 
Imagination and Integrity,"  is scheduled for July 25-27, 1997, on the 
campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.  It will include 
practical classes, lectures, recitals and participatory worship 
experiences. 
 
     Keynoters are the Rev. Scott Black Johnston, professor of homiletics 
at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, who will be the conference 
preacher; the Rev. David Steele, humorist, author and retired Presbyterian 
pastor, who will be the conference Bible study leader; and Jane Manton 
Marshall, widely known composer, author and teacher, who will be music 
leader. 
 
     Classes will focus on such worship-related skills as adult choir 
conducting, children's choir conducting, textile arts, music for pre-school 
children, worship and music service planning, youth choir conducting, 
handbell choir conducting and music composition on computer.
