96493    Nominees Sought for Annual Presbyterian  Higher  
                         Education Award

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Nominees for the Presbyterian Church's annual Higher 
Education Award are to be submitted to the Office of Higher Education in 
Louisville by Jan. 15, according to Duncan Ferguson, coordinator. 
 
     The award is given each year at the General Assembly.  A committee of 
those who work in the higher education mission of the church will make the 
selection. 
 
     Criteria for eligibility are: 
 
     1.  The person must be living. 
     2.  The service must be distinguished, extensive and long-term. 
     3.  The person must be involved in the life of the church. 
     4.  The service must be of national and/or international significance. 
     5.  The person must be a Presbyterian or have worked in behalf on the 
         Presbyterian Church. 
 
     Recipients of the award will be given a letter and a certificate from 
the Office of Higher Education. 
 
     Those wishing to nominate a candidate should respond in a letter to 
the criteria and two additional letters of support should be supplied. 
Nominations will remain in an active nomination file for three years if the 
nominee is not selected for the major award or as a member of the honor 
roll. 
 
     An honor roll of up to four persons will be established each year to 
recognize nominees who are not selected.  Those names will be announced at 
the General Assembly and will be printed in future publicity.  Honorees 
will receive a letter and a certificate from the Office of Higher 
Education. 
 
     Nominations should be mailed to Ferguson at: Presbyterian Church 
(U.S.A.), 100 Witherspoon St., M040, Louisville, Ky.  40202-1396.
