President of Moravian College chosen to head
United Methodist-related Randolph-Macon College

                by United Methodist News Service

Roger H. Martin, 53, president of Moravian College,
Bethlehem, Pa., for the past 11 years, has been named new president
of United Methodist-related Randolph-Macon College.
Martin will become 14th president of the 167-year old liberal
arts institution in Ashland, Va. July 1. He succeeds Ladell Payne,
who retires June 30 after 18 years as president.
Announcement of Martin's selection was made Jan. 21 by
Beverley Dalton, chairperson of the Randolph-Macon board of
trustees.
"The board was looking for someone who can take what is
already a very strong liberal arts college and move it ahead to
greater prominence nationally," Dalton said. "We believe that Dr.
Martin is that person."
Martin, a historian of British Methodism and a scholar of
Methodism's founder, John Wesley, is a 1965 graduate of Drew
University and holds master of divinity and master of sacred
theology degrees from Yale University and a doctorate of philosophy
from Oxford University.
