     Linda Post Bushkofsky has been elected associate synod executive for 
communication and interpretation for the Synod of Lakes and Prairies.  She 
begins her duties March 1, succeeding Jose Villarreal, who resigned at the 
end of 1996. 
     Bushkofsky, a Pennsylvania native, most recently served as synod 
administrator for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical 
Lutheran Church in America, where in 1996 she won two awards of merit from 
the Religious Public Relations Council.

     Elisabeth Adler, a longtime leader in international ecumenical 
circles, died Jan. 15 in Berlin. Funeral services were held there Jan. 28. 
     Adler served from 1959 to 1963 as European secretary for the World 
Student Christian Federation in Geneva.  From 1963 until she retired in 
1985, she was director of the Evangelical Academy in East Berlin.  Adler 
was also instrumental in establishing the World Council of Churches 
"Programme to Combat Racism."  She served as an international peacemaker 
for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Peacemaking Program from 1989 to 1991.
