AKRON, Pa. -- A new Lenten resource, "The Economic Way of the
Cross," explores current world economic issues through the recounting
of Jesus' suffering and crucifixion.

The resource, by the Religious Working Group on the World Bank and
International Monetary Fund, was prepared for Christian groups who
on Good Friday re-enact the Stations of the Cross, stopping at various
community sites as a public witness. It is equally useful for groups
interested in studying global economics any time.

Although the Stations of the Cross is a tradition associated with
Roman Catholics, ecumenical groups are increasingly practicing it.
The "Economic Way of the Cross" resource was created for
interdenominational use.

The Washington Office of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) U.S.
is one of more than 40 faith groups belonging to the Religious
Working Group that prepared the resource. MCC U.S. staffperson
Martin Shupack helped write and edit the booklet.

"The Economic Way of the Cross," with materials for study, action
and reflection, is available for $6 from the Religious Working Group
on WB/IMF, PO Box 29132, Washington, D.C. 20017. An
accompanying packet of seven picture postcards is also available for an
extra $3. (The postcards depict public Way of the Cross enactments
with peace and justice themes from Kenya, Nicaragua, the Philippines
and Washington, D.C.) For more information, write an e-mail
message to "mknolldc@igc.apc.org," phone (202) 283-1780 or fax
