RANDY NAYLOR TO ASSUME NCC COMMUNICATIONS DUTIES

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Rev. Dr. Randy L. Naylor,
Toronto, Canada, former president of the World
Association of Christian Communication, will become
director of communication for the National Council
of the Churches of Christ in the USA on May 1.

An experienced communications executive, Dr.
Naylor served for 12 years as the general secretary
for communication of the United Church of Canada.
He has been a member of the National Council's
Communication Commission.  He succeeds Ms. Betty
Thompson who has been the interim director since
Michael Maus left for a position with the American
Bible Society last year.

In his new position Dr. Naylor will be in
charge of the Council's news and interpretation,
media advocacy and education, and electronic media.
Elected by the Council's Executive Board in Chicago
in November, he was introduced to the NCC's 50-
member Communication Commission meeting in Toronto
Feb. 10-12.

In his duties as president of the World
Association of Christian Communication, (1989 -
1995) he visited Christian communications agencies
in all parts of the world.  He presided over the
Association's world assembly in Mexico in 1995.

In his job as communications head of the United
Church of Canada, he supervised a publishing house,
media resources, information, graphics and print
production.

Since 1995 he has been in a doctoral program at
the University of Toronto's School of Theology with
a focus on communication and theology.  He is a
graduate of the University of Alberta and St.
Stephen's College, Edmonton.
