CANADA: ANGLICANS URGED TO BOYCOTT US HOLIDAYS

(ENI) Canadian Anglicans are being encouraged to boycott all US holiday
destinations and visit Caribbean venues instead, as a protest against US
policy on Cuba.

The Anglican Church of Canada's Council has called on Church members to
join the mounting opposition to the United States' 34 year embargo on
Cuba
and to the Helms-Burton Law, introduced by the US Government last year
to
penalise foreigners who deal with Cuba.

At the Council's November meeting, Anglicans officially added their
voice
to the growing number of Churches, non-governmental agencies and unions
supporting the Canadian Government's opposition to US policy. While many
organisations are calling for Canadians not to take their holidays in
the
US state of Florida, the Anglican Council has widened the called to
include
all US holiday destinations.

The Presiding Bishop of ECUSA, the Most Revd Edmond Browning, has said
that
he shares Canada's concerns about the Helms-Burton Law and has written
to
President Clinton.
