     The Rev. Barbara A. Roche, founding editor of "HORIZONS" magazine and 
Bible Study, has resigned, effective Sept. 1, 1997.  Roche's resignation 
was "regretfully accepted" by Hazel Fuhrmeister, moderator of Presbyterian 
Women, and Helen Waddle, chair of the "HORIZONS" board of directors, during 
the Feb. 17 meeting of the Presbyterian Women Churchwide Coordinating Team 
in San Antonio, Texas. 
     Roche has served as editor of "HORIZONS" since its founding nine years 
ago.  Previously she was editor of "Concern," the magazine of United 
Presbyterian Women in the former United Presbyterian Church in the United 
States of America.

     Karen Sack has been named human resources director for Ghost Ranch and 
Plaza Resolana. Sack, who is Presbyterian, has been a human resources 
professional for more than 20 years.

     The Rev. William C. Pender, pastor of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian 
Church in Rock Hill, S.C., has been named one of 14 recipients of the 1997 
Louisville Institute Research Grants for Religious Leaders.  Pender is 
conducting his research on the topic "Preparing Church Board Members to 
Become a Spiritual Community of Leaders." 
     The Louisville Institute, housed on the campus of Louisville 
Presbyterian Theological Seminary, awards up to 15 grants annually to 
support research and leadership education on American religion in ways that 
are mutually beneficial to both scholars and religious leaders.

     The Rev. Randy Naylor of Toronto, former president of the World 
Association of Christian Communication (WACC), will become director of 
communication for the National Council of Churches on May 1.  He succeeds 
Betty Thompson, who has been the interim director since Michael Maus left 
for a position with the American Bible Society last year. 
     Naylor was most recently general secretary for communication for the 
United Church of Canada, a position he held for 12 years.  He was WACC 
president from 1989 to 1995.
