'News Odyssey' moves
to new prime-time slot

      NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- "News Odyssey," the new 30-minute weekly
cable television news program that explores religion and values in
the world, is moving into a permanent, prime-time slot April 4.  
      Produced by United Methodist Communications (UMCom) here, 
the program will air April-June on Fridays at 7 p.m. on the
Odyssey interfaith cable channel.  It will be repeated on Fridays
at 11 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m and 11 p.m. (all times ET).
      The show's interfaith and international emphasis reflects on
what is happening in the world.  
      A weekly leaders' guide, which links subjects covered by on-
air personalities to the Bible and other discussion topics, is
accessible Fridays through the United Methodist Information home
page at www.umc.org/newsodyssey on the Internet.  
      Viewers are encouraged to tape Friday-evening broadcasts for
use, along with suggestions in the leaders guide, in Sunday-
morning church-school classrooms or other study settings. 
Transcripts of each show are available at the same Internet site
for those who do not have access to the Odyssey Channel.

      The Odyssey channel, which reaches almost 30 million
households on nearly 1,500 cable systems, is jointly owned by
subsidiaries of the National Interfaith Cable Coalition Inc.
(NICC) and Tele-Communications Inc.  NICC is a consortium of 64 
faith groups, including the United Methodist Church, Jewish,
Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions.
