Oxford College student
receives Burry scholarship

NASHVILLE (UMNS) -- Melissa Traver, a student at Oxford
College of Emory University, Atlanta, is the recipient of the
1997-98 Allan Jerome Burry Scholarship for academic achievement
and campus ministry involvement.
Traver is the third recipient of the $500 scholarship named
for the Rev. Allan J. Burry, former assistant general secretary of
the United Methodist Board of Higher Education and Ministry's
Campus Ministry Section. Burry died in 1990.
The scholarship recognizes a United Methodist student's
outstanding academic performance, leadership skills and
participation in the activities of a United Methodist-related
campus ministry or chaplaincy program.
Traver has a 3.98 grade point average and plans to attend
Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Ga. next year. She
attends White Bluff United Methodist Church, Savannah, Ga.
She was nominated for the award by Oxford College's chaplain,
the Rev. Sam M. Clark Jr., because of her active involvement on
the Oxford campus and her leadership in the United Methodist
Student Movement.
Traver is an active member of the Oxford Fellowship and was
nominated by the college dean to be one of two people to represent
