BRAZIL: ANGLICANS FOCUS ON MISSION

(ALC) During the next few years, the Anglican Church of Brazil (IEAB)
will focus its activities on mission, according to the Secretary General
of this church, Mauricio de Araujo de Andrade.

The IEAB is focusing on service programmes, as opposed to reinforcing
its internal structure, added Mr Araujo. This expansion of services has
resulted in a more efficient presence in the western extreme of the
country and the Amazon region.

>From April 7-10 a IEAB Leaders Conference will be held on the theme "Time to Proclaim and Serve." More than 70 leaders, among bishops and lay people, from the seven Anglican dioceses in Brazil, will participate in the conference.

Immediately after the leaders conference, the IEAB will hold its General
Synod in Villa Bethania, Porto Alegre. This Synod, which will be held
April 10-13, will examine the route followed by the Church in the past
three years and will define goals for the future.
